Great Accessory

It does it's job brilliantly. Designed specifically for the Sony Alpha DSLR and the A200 fits perfectly inside, as will the A350 and A700. There are two side pockets for memory cards/filters and a lengthy shoulder strap.

The only down side is the side pockets aren't really big enough for the charger, due to the size of the UK plug. It will fit inside the main case however, but be careful not to scratch your camera.

A superb sub-SLR compromise

I was wondering whether to go to the expense of an SLR when shopping to replace my Sony CyberShot DSC-W1:

In the end, I went for this and I have not been disappointed. Its response is very quick and it looks great, being not too big and in possession of a great screen to view pictures on. In the box you get a rechargable battery (Lithium-ion NP-BG1), battery charger, shoulder strap, lens cap, lens hood (for use when the sun is out) and lens adapter, which is used to attach the hood and other lenses that you might wish to purchase. There's a USB cable and TV connector, too. I have a Sony Telephoto lens (Sony VCL-DH1758.AE Tele End Conversion Lens) which increases the magnification/zoom by 1.7, and is a great addition.

The pictures that are produced are superb and the super-steady technology ensures no blur if you have shakey hands. Having a 10x optical zoom is incredibly useful, and the images are brilliant, full of colour, as the lens is able to capture plenty of light.

If you don't want the expense of an SLR and you find that your current compact is not up to the job, this is the camera. I have no regrets forking out for this at all!

The camera uses the small Sony memory sticks. My 4GB one holds about 1250 images at 8MP. Of course, lowering the resolution allows more, so 3MP is about 2500.

Spacious

The carry case does not seem to be too spacious especially if you have other accessories to carry for the camcorder.

Reliability - of Sony and Amazon

I bought my Sony Cybershot DSC-N1 from Amazon on 22 June last year. It's a brilliant camera. The NP-BG1 rechargeable battery failed catastrophically on 20 June 2007 - just under the 12 month guarentee - a very poor battery life. Sony seems to be dogged with poor battery quality for PCs and now cameras.

Amazon was unwilling to provide a replacement battery though it was initially willing to refund the cost of my camera if I returned it. However, this brilliant camera is no longer available. Catch 22. In a second e-mail exchange Amazon (a week after the failure) claimed that the camera was now out of warranty ie the 12 months guarentee doesn't apply to when an item fails, but when you report and return it. You can't do always report the same day when you are away. Amazon has succeeded and worn me down. I paid for another battery.

Great Tripod

Great little tripod. bought it as a travel tripod for a trip to australia and its been a great help. packs down really small, fitting i a very small day pack with plenty of room for slr, raincoat, and bottle of water.

Very easy to use, very light and feels very sturdy for the price i paid.

The one thing i would say is that this is not the tallest tripod when fully extended. so think about what you intend to use the tripod - i found that, when trying to take photographs over the fence of a motorway brige, that it was JUST too small for the job.

As a travel tripod, it is great value for money.

I didn't actually get it...

I'm sure the item itself is great, but when I ordered this, I actually got the LCS-TWD instead and it was shipped from the US. So I basically didn't get what I paid for.

Interestingly, I paid £4.50 for p&p and £26.25 for the item -- when the package arrived, it said that US postage was $1.80 (about 90 pence?) and the value stated on the jiffy was $9.49 (about £5?), so in all I feel like I've been ripped off... In fairness, elsewhere on the internet, you can get the case for anything from £18-£24.99 so I'd say that it's probably best to buy from elsewhere -- at least you might get what you ordered.

What can you say about a bit of plastic 1/4 of a post stamp? i did put it in my mobile phone and it does the job. the postage is a bit on the high side for this item but it's worth it. quick delivery and good brand. A+++

Pretty good for 8+ Mp.

I recently bought this camera and have been suitably impressed. It looks and feels great, the LCD screen is a nice size and easily visible. I did opt for this over the Sony T100 because this W90 has a viewfinder and in bright sun, I wanted to guarantee I could see what I was taking a photo of.
The Menu's are easy to use with on-screen information provided throughout so you know what each option does.
As for the photos themselves, I think they're pretty good. Outside photos are colourful, not too sharp or noisy. Indoor photos are also impressive, the flash works well and very few are out of focus which used to drive me mad from my last camera!
On the whole though, I do agree with much debate surrounding 8Mp sensors on point and shoot cameras not being perfected yet. Although it does take good photos, the W55 did provide more accurate shooting with regards to less noise and blurring, especially when using the zoom functions.

...If you're after a high megapixel camera however, easy to use and not too fussed on over analysing each picture, then this camera is pretty good. If you're saving all your pennies for a great 8Mp+ camera, then maybe there are other ones out there better for the money.
