Not a good product - damaged my camcorder.

I bought this lens to accompany my new HDR-SR12E camcorder. The lens costs £140 and the camcorder (from Amazon) £830. The lens screws into the very fine pitch filter mount on the end of the existing lens. The thread is extremely delicate and barely adequate for small and light filters. It is grossy INADEQUATE for a heavy and bulky lens assembly. The lens is held on by two vertical rotations of thread. That's ridiculous. I only got the camcorder yesterday and I fitted the lens indoors as a test last night. That time it screwed on after little fuss but I had no light with which to test it. Today I took the camcorder and the lens outside at lunchtime. A typical camcorder case will not accommodate the camcorder with the lens attached so I had to mount it in the street. It refused to locate into the threads and with only a few seconds of trying I'd managed to scratch the end of my camcorder with the lens mount and strip the black enamel paint from the camcorder's filter thread!!! Then disaster, I was so busy trying to protect the camcorder that I lost my grip on the cone shaped (and smooth!) lens and it fell to the ground. The impact crushed the tiny threads and made my £140 lens junk there and then. I didn't get a single frame of video out of it and I'm furiously angry with SONY for creating such a piece of junk. There's no way a large piece of heavy glass should ever be attached to a camcorder by a tiny filter thread with a pitch so fine that it's near impossible to engage the lens into the threads without stripping them. This is a truly appalling design and I urge you not to risk it.

Great Product, shame about the price

This is a greater idea. However it is over priced and the DVD case is almost useless.

Even at the lower price range this little tool is just perfect it aint ever comming off.

Big, tough and a bit Jason Bourne.

Each of the eight sticks sits in its own little cutaway pod and the whole thing is frankly overengineered. But for me that adds to its charm. It's an attractive item that reeks of quality and it reminds me of those old-fashioned cigarette cases. But it really does the job and when you've got £100plus worth of Memory Sticks, it's nice to keep them in something like this. If cigarette cases put you off, think of it as a tiny equivalent of those cool aluminium briefcases which you see in modern spy movies. There are easier, cheaper ways of keeping them safe but none is as satisfying.

Superb

I started to get a little disappointed when I opened the box to see it. It is tiny. I knew the picture was not to scale but Gorden Bennett it's small.

Because of this, I thought it was going to be rubbish, but when I put it into my camcorder and turned it on, wooosh! Bright light! It works like a dream.

There are a lot more lights that cost a lot more, but this one does just the job! So, the old saying is true; size doesn't matter.

Does just the job

If you do have a compatible camera then this is a great microphone. Originally I purchased the Handycam gun mic, but was really disappointed with the sound quality. However after reading reviews on US Amazon I decided to risk buying this mic.

I wasn't disappointed at all. The mic is really easy to use and the sound quality is great. The mic is a bit big and bulky and you have to be careful about noise from clothing etc, but if you can control these factors then it's great. It picks up sound from a reasonably wide area so I intend to use it more as an off-camera microphone, rather than a lapel mic. This way I get sound closer to the action and without any camera noise.

The range is good and the receiver has a very handy earphone socket to monitor the sound coming from the mic. This means you can be aware of any sound issues at the time, rather than when it's too late.

I would prefer if Sony allowed third party microphones to be used with their cameras, but actually consumer grade cameras very rarely do. So considering this is the path I've gone down I'm delighted that they've produced this great mic.

Ok but certainly not five stars.

This lens is not as powerful as you might expect. I have a HDR-SR12E camcorder with a 12x optical zoom. This lens in effect makes it a 13.7x optical zoom, so don't expect any wow factor. But if you're filming something that's just that little bit too far away then this will come in handy. One good thing is that it screws in very easily and securely to the camcorder and it's weight doesn't affect the feel of the camcorder too much.

Warning - Waste of Extra Money

The PSP's magicgate is not powerful enough to read or write as fast as the high speed card so you might as well use a sandisk 1gb or the new sony non-highspeed and save yourself the cash. Info from Gamespot product test http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-15563-2229---x. Hope This Helps.

Good directionality but poor low frequency response

I purchased this microphone to use with my Sony HDR-HC7. My main reason for buying this mic was for improved off-axis sound rejection when recording speech in noisy environments. The shotgun design of this microphone, and it's corresponding directional polar response naturally means that it's considerably better than the camcorders built in omni mic at rejecting sounds which aren't coming from directly in front of the camera. The main disappointment however, is that the ECM HGZ1 has a very poor low frequency response, to the point of sounding quite tinny. I'd say that this mic does have it's uses, but unless you're regularly recording sound in very noisy locations, or perhaps where wind noise might be causing problems, then you may well get better results with the mic in your camcorder.

Great secondary lens on a budget

I was skeptical when buying this lens, but am really glad I bought it. Exactly what I wanted, if not better. Great price for a good quality lens, and is light, compact and brilliantly crafted x

Great for cameras, no good for phones.

4GB is great storage but this is not suitable for SonyEricsson mobile phones which use the smaller Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Micro M2 format. This product is ideal for hardware that uses the original Memory Stick size units and that are compatible with newer MS Pro and high capacity cards. Note some older models do not support MS Pro over 2GB (or MS Pro at all) so check first.
