A great little unit

A great little unit comes with a remote controller which is not always mentioned but very useful. Controls are well placed and easy to use. I could have wished for a slightly better tone but mega bass is available which makes a lot of difference. I really congratulate Sony for using re-cyled cardboard packing instead of that ghastly plastic foam which gets everywhere these days. Just missed giving it 5 stars because the price is just a tad high for the speaker quality which one gets.

A sound purchase - a rugged, powerful amplifier

I bought this amp about 4 years ago from Amazon - I use it all day, every day and it's still as good as new. The tonal quality is superb. It has amazing power - I have never turned the knob above half way round, even when I want to have really loud music. Nice positive feedback on source selection dial too. I have it connected to a Sony Minidisc deck and Sony CD deck. The remote for this amp allows basic fuction control on these other decks. I remember reading a review in What Hi-Fi magazine and this amp got 5 stars.

It will charge your mobile as a docking style device and most importantly, give you a great sound for such a compact unit.
Whether or not your playing your MP3 tracks or the radio you will love the sound from this unit......that for once (for this type of accessory).....feels really well contructed.

Got this system today after some waiting (bought it off another store as i didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks for this) and i have been very impressed. Its really a jack of all trades. It connects to absolutly anything! It was just replacing an iPod dock that had an inbuilt radio.

This is leauges ahead, it comes with the iPod DMPort adapter in the box, with a selection of inserts. I've got an iPod touch, and am pleased to say that this system is fully compatible with it. My old dock could just skip and play/pause. With this system you can do that, and also navigate all of the music menu system, switching artists or albums is a sinch, which i find great, only thing it can't do it unlock the player. I've also got a NWZ-A828 too, which i connected with both bluetooth and USB, with both working great, showing song info on screen, only upside to USB is that it'll charge the walkman too.

I cannot comment on the DAB performance of the unit as i don't have any coverage at home, but the FM and AM tuners work fine, tuning into all 5 stations i can recieve, and show RDS info for all of them. Also, sony provide two arials for the DAB and FM tuners, and they are very long, which is good for reception i guess. Theres also audio jack in on the front, if none of the other connection methods are available. Its also got one of those CD player things too!

Onto the all important thing, sound quality. I'm very impressed with the sound produced by the unit, i'm no hardcore audiophile, but i've played a number of differnt songs to see how it copes with different frequencies, and comparing it to the dock which it replaced, its far far better. All the music has a rich deep sound to it, you just sink into it. Especially for such a small unit. It could easily be a living room system as well as a bedroom one, as i am using it.

Ok, niggles. The display is nice and clear, but sadly when using the iPod dock through the digital media port, the unit doesn't display any song info, instead showing a boring"DMPORT". Also, the unit will charge a connected iPod, but only if the system is on, my old dock still charged, even when on standby.

Changing functions using the remote's + and - buttons takes a bit of getting used to, but with so many different functions, they didn't want to cram the remote full of buttons.

Also, most of the unit and front of the speakers are glossy, which looks great, when you first get it, but its getting smudgy already, but this can't be helped much i guess.

Apart from these minor niggles, this is a supurb system, which is leaving me no choice but to listen to my whole music collection again!

For Small But Not Narrow Spaces

This player was bought for the kitchen, so sound quality - within reason - was not a priority. It is sold as a compact model, so as compactness was an issue it was chosen.

The build quality is perfectly good for the money and the range of features fit for purpose. The sound quality is reasonable, if a bit top-heavy and lacking in subtlety. Both CD and cassette playback are OK. The FM tuner is OK, but locally Radio Three is a little weak and it can't receive in stereo without high levels of background noise. It is nice to note that it retains Long Wave, something vanishing from cheaper models of this type.

So why only three stars? It does everything well enough except the one thing it is sold on - space. The player is certainly smaller than many other similar players. But the AC/Mains lead supplied sticks out of the back and is so large it needs an extra 8-10 cm of space on a shelf, thus ruining the units compactness. If the lead had come out of one end it would have been capable of going into narrower spaces.

So overall, for the money it is reasonable value and providing you don't listen too closely, it makes a happy sound. But allow some space wherever you put it.

Great Price, work really well and just what i need. Bass is a little distorted at high levels, so would look at the step up if you want heavy bass

Rediculously cute!!!

My friend recently bought the Sony MzE310s minidisc player and was thoroughly pleased with it, this has I'm affraid got me into minidisc fever and I can really see the advantages. The minidisc player works smoothly from the start no problems there really are no down sides to this product except maybe the lack of an in-line remote. I whole heartedly endorse this product.

SRA-A201 Review

These speakers are amazing for the money. I was expecting them to be really tinny and bad, but they sound considerably better. I have tried them on my mp3 player and laptop and they sound perfect. The bass is excellent, the stereo is amazing, and the maximum volume is tremendous!

Excellent for the cheaper speakers - another great product from Sony!

You Pays Your Money.....

I agree with"Dougiew" about the sound. I bought this unit because it was Sony and to replace my CMT-NE3 which doesn't have DAB.The speakers are supposed to be 2x75watts but yet my old 2x25watts sounds richer and has more depth to the sound.As I am using this unit in the kitchen and it is not my only music source, I am not disappointed enough to return it!I thought that the price I paid was very good-delivery free and good value for the price I got it for- it was up to £30 more at other places.You pays your money and you makes your choice-£120 is ok.

Very good compromise if you cannot accomodate 6 speakers

I bought the RTH-G900 three weeks ago and I am very satisfied with it. I had before a big Pioneer amplifier from the VSX series plus 6 B&W speakers. To give you some scope for the comparison: about £2800 in equipment.

Things I like about the Sony:

1. Good looks and well built. It does look very good indeed.
2. Threes HDMI 1.3a connection plus 3 optical, one coaxial and one stereo also.
3. The HDMIs can take 1080p/24 without any problem at all.
4. The best part of this set is not that you can stream 5.1 though the HDMI connection and it will decode Dolby digital and DTS fine, as you expect: the ice on the cake is that you can also stream High Definition audio sources as long as you do it in PCM (only possible through HDMI) and then, you are in for a treat. If you have a HD-DVD player or a Blue-ray player then get ready for proper sound. The soundtrack in DTS-Master for"Brotherhood of the wolfs" in HD-DVD blew my head away last Saturday. Pristine sound, good scale and control. Soundtracks in Dolby TrueHD also sound great.

Things I do not care for:

1. The bass does not go low enough as you would like but it is quite pleasant and well controlled. Taking on account that the sub woofer is enclosed within the rack it is quite remarkable that it can achieve decent bass in the first place. Good but not great.
2. The surround sound field is not totally convincing but it does definitely sound far better and more involving than stereo. The atmospheric sounds in movies are reproduced fine with the virtual effect but it does not get close to my previous 5.1 at all. Taking on account that the whole thing cost me less than half of what I paid just for my previous amply, I think this is a 5 STARS product (and my wife is now happy too!).

A good value tape deck.

As an entry level tape deck this Sony product does a good job.

Sound quality is remarkably good considering the price tag, and bearing in mind the tape format in question.

There are twin tape decks for normal or high speed dubbing, or simply for recording from your preferred source, be it compact disc, mini disc or radio etc. You can record only on deck B, and playback on either deck A or B.

There is auto reverse and relay play, twin digital tape counters, and a stereo level meter for assessing the optimum recording level. There is also an auto-record-level setting which does a good job.

There is Dolby B/C and HX-PRO, auto tape type selection, and auto music search which allows you to locate tracks either forwards or backwards a certain number from the point you are currently at on the tape. There is a fader for fading the music in or out, at the end of a tape for example. There is also a pitch control on deck A.

Given the price tag it's hard to be too critical of this product since it does a good job at both recording and playback. To put things into perspective - obviously it's not going to sound quite as high-fidelity as a CD player since you are limited by the older tape format - but taking this into account it's a good product.

Sony SRS-A27 Battery Operated Speakers with Volume Control

These speakers worked much better than expected, I am very pleased with them, they were bought to connect to my Sony dvd player DVP-FX810. They amplify the volume very effectively and are not too big to pack away.

Sony SRS M-30 small portable with OK sound

The great thing about these speakers is that they are very light (only 200gms) and easy to carry. Even the adapter is pretty sleek. The sound is OK. Mid and high frequencies sound very good, but lower frequencies get distorted esp. at high volumes. So if you listen at low and medium volumes and are always on the move, and hate to have headphones always on, these are worth the price.
