The pre-intalled Sony utilities, survey software, auto-updates, added value services, contantly disrupt my work with useless prompts. My customer presentations are ruined as the next prompt breaks my flow, forcing me to find how to side-step the latest demand to take part in a Sony survey etc. And the system takes ages to boot up, bogged down by all this rubbish.
I'm also a highly tech-savvy user, but I'm totaly beaten trying to uninstall the Sony junkware. As far as I can see, it's not uninstallable. So I tried to re-install Windows Vista, but now I'm in driver hell, as I can't find the hardware drivers to get functions like the high res display, mousepad and wireless working again.
All in all, this laptop might be fine if you need an entertainment PC for your kids. But if you're a time-pressed professional with a job to do, then this purchase will take you to new levels of frustration and work inefficiency.

Ok hardware, but crippled by Sony's software
I've bought a number of top end Sony laptops in the past, and this latest purchase definitely marks the end of the line. one complaint though, i feel the volume doesnt go to a high enough level so that if two people are listening to it, or you are in a nosiy room the music is a little too quiet. but, in most situations it is adequate.
overall, i am pleased i picked a sony mp3 as i am veyr impressed with the quality.

really pleased!
After deciding on a sony mp3 compared to an i-pod, i have been pleased with the sound quality and design. Also, i had read poor reviews about the software in comparison to i-tunes, but i have had no problems and find sonicstage easy to use. The design is sleek and stylish. Another bonus is that it comes with wall charger, compared to some i-pods which only come with the computer charger.one complaint though, i feel the volume doesnt go to a high enough level so that if two people are listening to it, or you are in a nosiy room the music is a little too quiet. but, in most situations it is adequate.

The VoIP part works with no driver needed. When receiving an incoming call, the LED on the top lights up. Flipping it open (like a standard clamshell mobile phone) answers the call. Pretty simple eh? As a bonus, the scroll wheel even doubles as a volume control! Flipping the lid halfway activates the loudspeakers if you fancy that sort of thing.
I got mine for £20 and find it worth the money. I question whether it is worth parting £50-60 for a mouse that moonlights as a VoIP phone. The sound quality is pretty good with the latest Skype program, on par with most landlines and mid-range mobile phones. However sound quality on Skype highly depends on your connection and ISP bandwidth availability than the mouse itself.

VoIP moonlighting mouse
I've been using this for more than a year and has been using it ever since. The mouse itself is very small and comfortable. Not as comfy as those curved ergonomic Logitech mouse, but comfortable enough to use for long period without wrist pain. The symmetrical shape also allows lefties to use the mouse. The mouse features 800dpi of optical precision. This should be sufficient for general purpose computing.The VoIP part works with no driver needed. - NTL/Samsung Cable Box
- Sherwood Amp/Receiver
- Philips Hard Disk Recorder /DVD Player

Great little mouse; easy to carry around.
I have had this sony vaio mini optical mouse for a few weeks now and it is great. Does exactly what it says it should and is ideal for someone who doesn’t like using a touchpad on a laptop but don’t want to carry around a big mouse. It seems a bit expensive at first, but when you use it you can see the very high quality that you get with nearly all sony products. It fits in well with my sony vaio laptop, but also works with any laptop or desktop computer. I strongly recommend it to anyone that wants a small, easy to use mouse.55

The laptop features an AV button, this is a feature which you can use when the laptop is powered down, pressing it launches and linux type area that will let you use the media functions of the laptop with out power up the laptop fully! which makes it quicker and also if you are just using it to watch a dvd on a train it save power
there is a GREAT keyboard on the laptop that is mac style, it is very well made. great spacing between keys.
The screen as with all vaio is HD and pin sharp, it does have the x-black film which can reduce viewing in direct sun light, but my old laptop did not have this feature and you could not see it in direct sunlight so you dont really lose out, but because of this screen type everyday use is easy on the eyes.
Battery life, on power save mode you can get upto 5 hours! vaio mode will give you 3 hours and high power mode will give you 2 hours
connectivity, it has 3 usb ports, firewire, vga out, s-video out, pmcia port, memory card reader, bluetooth (stereo) and wifi
style, well what can i say its a vaio!
if you dont want the be the same as joe bloggs and want somthing differnt and stylish vaio is the way to go. power-performance-style

Great laptop!
I have had this laptop for a while now, and i cant fault it. Its fast and NEVER crashes. It has an unbeatable build quality! the review left by some about poor service from sony makes me laugh! i mean how could any one expect a smashed screen to be covered by the warranty! that would be like driving a new car of a forcourt and crashing it then taking it back and asking them to repair it for free with no insurance! with the laptop being worth almost 900 pounds i have taken insurance on mine ;) a comparing laptop is the samsung q45 but lets face it its still not a vaio! If you do get one make sure you buy a real vaio case and other bits and pieces, sony make some really great products. Don't buy this - sorry but it doesn't do what it is supposed to!
I've had my LT2S for 9 days now and I've been on the phone to Vaio tech support 9 times too. The serial number is hidden under the back cover so immediately you're going to have a problem finding that to register. The cover itself is flimsy and the instructions on how to get it off are appalling (no words just pictures with arrows that actually point the wrong way). Then when you do take it off the first time it will never fit back on properly ever again. The Vaio asks me to update the software every single time I turn it on, even 10 times a day. The disc drive feels wrong and sounds like it is going to break, the USB drives frequently don't work and the radio-wireless mouse has never worked for me at all. Sony have agreed to take mine back to the factory but after all the pain I've gone through I think I am going to take it back to the shop and get a Mac instead!
