after about 18 months or in the case of the 2nd one just after 2 years, (basically when the warranty runs out).....they will break/stop working ! Sony will charge you an arm and a leg - in the case of the last one they wanted £900 to repair it !! (so total cost of ownership for 2 years would have been £1600.00 plus £900.00 = £2,500.00 !!!!)
Can you afford £2500 for a laptop ??
I shall never purchase a SONY laptop again. They are designed to just last a year and then they want you to purchase a new one as they make the repair costs so expensive
I have now gone back to thinkpads....you know you are getting build quality

Brilliant - but will break !!!
I have had 2 of these little via laptops....and they are brilliant for a portable traveller......EXCEPT !!!!

The processor and speed are fast, good size hard drive and comes with built in 3G card. The screen is very thin and the display is excellent. The carbon fibre case makes it light also. Battery is between 2.5 hours and around 5 depending on what power management system you use. Fingerprint recognition is useful also.
Only downsides are the price, problems with Windows Vista Business and the bundled Sony software and continued Sony updates that keep popping up.
You can now get this for around £1100 if you shop around since Sony have just launched the SZ71 which has 200gb hard drive and a slightly faster processor.

noisiest drive ever
I bought one of these thinking it was a bargain but soon found out how wrong I was. I returned it because when I first booted my computer I could hear a scraping sound coming from the drive, then a clanging sound. I inserted a DVD disc plugged my ear phones in but could hear a loud whirling sound over the sound of the DVD. My wife who was asleep in the other room came in to ask what all the noise was about. I returned it the next day,however the replacement is exactly the same! I thought Sony products were good I always held them in high respect. Now all that has changed with this piece of noisy rubbish that I will probably give to a charity shop...that's if they will have it!80
Fantastic, versatile laptop
This is a really nice laptop. It's a little larger than I was expecting, but is delightfully slim for a machine of it's capabilities. Bonuses on this model are the Blu-Ray burner, built-in TV (including Freeview) tuner, ultra fast Raid 0 harddrives and top spec graphics card. One thing that I'm a little disappointed by is the keyboard. It feels a bit cheap and plastic - it reminds me of an old Sinclair QL keyboard - and I would have expected something with better quality on a Sony top-of-the-range laptop. My only other criticism is something that is common with all laptops these days and that is the amount of software that is already installed on it. I spent the first day removing what I didn't want and installing what I did. Depending on your circumstances, this is either a good thing or a bad thing.It's a decent piece of kit though. I played World of Warcraft on it with all the video options set at max, running full screen at 1920x1200 and it runs totally smoothly.
