Exceptionally Good for the Price

I have this radio for 4 years now, and I must admit this is one of the best purchases I made on Amazon. Reception quality is very good on SW and FM, and presets are just so convenient. Perfect for those learning languages, listening to the news from their home country, travelling to remote spots where FM or digital does not reach (but serves as great FM radio as well). Price is very reasonable, for it's technical parameters this is great value for money. Aerial could be a bit sturdier - well nothing is perfect.

Rediculously cute!!!

My friend recently bought the Sony MzE310s minidisc player and was thoroughly pleased with it, this has I'm affraid got me into minidisc fever and I can really see the advantages. The minidisc player works smoothly from the start no problems there really are no down sides to this product except maybe the lack of an in-line remote. I whole heartedly endorse this product.

Great clock radio

I've bought this to replace an older Sony clock radio. The main reason for the replacement was the very bright LCD display on the old clocka and the narrow viewing angles for the display.
This radio looks good, appears to be well built and has a greater range of functions. The radio reception is very good in my area and, despite the myriad of buttons, the unit is very easy to use.
It has even managed to gain approval from my wife!

Misrepresented radio?

Be careful ordering this radio on the Amazon site. You will find if you look that there are two Sony SRF M37 Personal radios advertised by Amazon, and they are in fact different!!?? I thought I had ordered the Sony SRF-M37 with 'long wave' radio, as recommended by John Friel, but this was NOT the radio I was supplied with. Instead, as M Van der Velde says in his review I got an AM/FM radio designed for the US market, presumably manufactured for when the US was due to convert to digital signals. This meant it included a 'TV' channel band, and a weather band, both of which actually appear to do nothing in the UK. I have given the radio two stars, because it does work reasonably well as an AM/FM radio, but this is just me being generous. The radio I ordered should have had long wave (for the cricket mainly) and this one doesn't, so I have been sold a pup. I am in the process of complaining to Amazon, who hopefully will adjust their advertising and realise the mistake they have made!

Good, solid,dependable radio.

I've had one of these radios for 2 years now and it's always struck me as good value.I use it in the bathroom (so lots of steam) and it works fantastically.Sound is good due to the bass speaker.If you want a radio that does all the basics of radio listening,then this is it.I'd buy one again.

A bit of a disappointment

I bought this to replace an old Sony transistor radio that I used to carry around the house in the morning before going to work. I would have done better to replace it with an updated analogue version, because the sound quality on the new digital Sony DAB isn't appreciably better and the volume is barely adequate. There are quite a few further drawbacks -
- it consumes batteries voraciously
- I found I needed to extend the aerial fully to ensure a continuous signal (even in Central London), which is awkward on a portable
- it's much more expensive than the old technology
- there are some other hassles to do with changing the batteries quickly/not using mains supply with the batteries in.
Overall, I'm not sure why Sony bothered to launch this product. It's not convenient enough to work as a truly portable radio.

Great quality, fiddly controls,display not ideal...

This clock radio/cd looks and feels good solid quality. A case of you get what you pay for.The sound is quite decent and there is no motor noise at all from the CD player.It is a pleasing and different design to the usual. But in use it has a couple of disadvantages -
1)the controls are tiny and fiddly especially for a bedside device that you may need to operate in the dark. It takes quite a while to figure it all out and to change the alarm time or mode. Not a problem if you get up the same time every day but annoying if you work shifts.
2)The time display is dark numbers on a lit background and even on the lowest setting that background is rather bright for sleeping right next to.AND it is hard to read the time when your eyes are not quite focussed. An older fashioned display with LED numbers is definitely better.

Quite litteraly a 'Dream Machine'

This is a great piece of kit which does exactly what you need it to with no fuss. It picks up a great signal for waking up to the radio and the battery life is superb (mains lead also included). Great for travel due to its compact build. Had no problems and would highly recommend.

Overpriced and avoid.

This really is one to avoid - so much so that it's on onroute back to AMazon for a refund. The sound (from the radion and CD) is not would you would expect from SONY,in fact put me in mind of those cheapo Binatone makes of years ago. Unit itself is more bulky than it needs to be and whilst the blue lighting is impressive it does not dull enough to just be aware of the time it felt as if it was lighting the whole room - handy I guess if you need to find your way without switching a light on but infuriating when trying to get to sleep!Once my refund has been given I will be looking for an alternative unit at the moment my 23 year old Sanyo has been ressurected!

Great product overall

The look is plain yet stylish and not flashy so should stay in fashion for a while. Some people have talked of low hum noise with DAB radios whilst in standby and this is really only an issue if you are a light sleeper. Possible solutions here could be to use a good quality mains-line noise supressor. Turn the volume right down or off or sleep in another room. Not my problem as our is in the kitchen ;-}
I think the sound is brilliant with stereo speakers giving good sound and good bass with very little distortion at max volume. A L/R stereo effect is not noticeable but with 6 inch separation - go figure.
All in all another piece of brilliant kit from Sony at a decent price hence 5 stars.

Incorrect Picture

This is clearly a picture of Apple's new i-Pod nano. No not be fooled by it. They are breaking copyright by using this picture and trying to lure you into buying a cheap product.
