Bedside friend.

I replaced a 30 year-old Ferguson - still going strong with good sound but the on/off switch had failed. I already have a PURE DAB radio in the house which is OK (placing is critical for signal) and was attracted by the specification of the Tempus 1S. As a clock radio it is excellent - easy to set up, clear sound (Classic FM to wake to!) and a nice feature is the display which automatically dims to an unobtrusive green at night from the bright daytime display. No criticisms whatsoever.

Duronic wind up radio, torch etc

My husband is really pleased with this as am I. It is light to carry and the sound is good, torch is bright, and the fact that we will never need batteries, well that speaks for itself, will be really handy in a power cut. Well worth the money.

PURE magic

If you want a CD player combined with a DAB radio this is a good choice.

Good for grownups too!

I must confess that I am an adult and I bought this for myself. I just didn't want any of those boring black or grey clock radios. Then I spotted this one! It has all the features I need--although I will probably refrain from using the coloured disco ball light. It is nice and sturdy and easy to operate, and it is colourful and bright. A real winner even for grownups!

Complex and poor volume control

I have now owned this radio for approximately two years and before that the earlier version of this radio. This version is to my mind unduly complex with an unsatisfactory user interface and poor volume control.

The volume control wheel is hard to set for low volumes. Light pressure on the wheel (towards the case) also causes the volume to vary, making it hard to adjust.

Setting and storing stations, alarms and times could be better organised. It is possible, for example, to adjust from summer to winter time or the reverse rather easily, thus potentially inadvertently adjusting alarm times.

Signal handling is generally good.
Aside from the volume control, the radio gives the impression of being well built.

With a digital volume control and a tidied up user interface this would be a very good analogue signal world radio.

Does the job - Sony Dream Machine CD Clock Radio ICF-CD814

Bought this for my office. Recent reshuffle in the office means I can't see a clock* and, as my old cd/radio player had died, I was after something new. This looked like it would fill the space, but I wanted something I could plug my MP3 player into too. And this is the business. Bought a cable from the hardware store across the road to connect the MP3 to the 'audio in' socket. Pressed the 'audio in' button and voila! I can listen to any album I want or any playlist I choose.

*I know I have a clock on my PC/MAC but I like a regular size clock. After a while you stop noticing the clock on them (don't you?!)

Whether I just want to plug in the MP3 player
- or fancy a CD (useful for small gatherings in the office)
- or want to listen to the radio (useful for when I get bored with the others/MP3 running low and especially so when you need to keep up to date with the outside world)
this does it all

I don't use the buzzer alarm, so cannot comment on it. Volume is great. I don't use the radio very much, so can't comment on how good it is - whenever I tune in it seems fine to me. And as for comments about earphones - what do you want those for on a clock radio? The aerial is a simple thin dangly one, but it's not much different to other types I have had so it works for me.

Not what I expected

This radio cassette recorder was very disappointing. Itdoes not have numbered buttons for all of the pre tuned programmes. With the result if you want to find a program you have to use the right and left double arrows to get to it either from the set itself or from the hand control. I found it difficult to tune in all the programmes I wanted to pre-set. Also the tape buttons are spaced in such a way that they look as though they are about to break. It is so inferior to my older Sony which has buttons numbered 1-10 for all the channels.
Poorly designed and far too expensive for such a poor quality item.

EXcellent buy!

I love the little remote control with this easy to use radio/alarm. It has a good range of sound so the alarm can be subtle for a gentle awakening.It has great sound if played loud too, it can fill the upstairs of my house with music.

excellend sound

This radio has good sound from the speaker. dials are easy to use and radio is quite sensitive.

only gripe is that headphone socket only produces sound to one ear.

overall, great as a room radio, speaker is very clear - not so good with headphones

I really like this walkman. It looks smart. But the only thing is it feels very plasticy and cheap. If you bought it as a present the person would think you hadn't spent much. But I really like it and it has a good tone to it.

Brilliant!

I purchased this product and was a little unsure - at the time it had not been rated and no one had made any comments. I have to say that it was gamble well worth taking - I love it! It is really easy to programme and use. It is a nice looking piece of kit. The sound quality is good and the small remote is very handy, especially to hit 'snooze' without even leaving the warmth of bed! It arrived quickly and was well packed with no damage. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product to anyone - you won't be disappointed.

Looks odd but works well

When I reviewed this for PURE shortly after buying it, I said the antenna supplied appeared to need familiarity with the Indian Rope Trick. After I managed to attach the end of the little bit of wire that claims to be an aerial to a bit of my bedside lamp in a more or less vertical position by tying it round something (and thereby shortening it a bit) I managed to get all the DAB stations I wanted except Classic FM --- which I found by switching to FM. Can't help thinking that a rigid telescopic aerial with 180 degree movement in a vertical plane and the same in a horizontl plane as used on practically every other radio I've ever come across would have been better. Of course it might have increased the price marginally .....

Mini disc"PLAYER"

After owning a similar product (MZH600) for a number of years and being very pleased with the sound and quality I decided to buy this as a gift for my wife.Although the description said player only I was disappointed that the player could not download music from the pc.I thought I could use my other player/recorder to download the music from the pc on to the disc but the 2 were not compatible. I couldn't really see any use for this player as pre recorded discs are not available and recorders are very expensive. Returned for credit very disappointed !!

Easy to set up, clarity good, battery life good, easy to carry. Both myself & my wife have bought
this model & are very pleased with it.

Utter rubbish!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT: Waste of money. Utterly hopeless. Will only sometimes play an iPod, bad connections. Radio dire. Threw it away (couldn't sell it for even a tenner) and bought a Sony version for twice the price - but a thousand times better!

Not for everyone

For the purpose I bought this it's really good. Loud enough, great iPod connectivity, good FM reception. The only downside is that there is an irritating hum when it's on standby, so I have to switch it off at the wall. That means the clock isn't kept right. I could never use this as an alarm clock, but everything else works well. A very good quality kitchen CD/iPod player and radio.

Stylish radio

Bought the Pure Chronos II Dab radio as a Christmas present for my husband and he is very pleased with it. Looks good, easy to find stations and reception excellent. Highly recommended.

Good value

Excellent little radio, if bigger than I expected, compared with my old Sony portable. My fault for not checking the dimensions. Not that it matters much, and I imagine the sound is better as a result of the size.

Just one irritation - it slides about on its plastic feet, especially on my tiled bathroom shelf. I stuck non-slip plastic pads on the bottom, and it's fine now.
